It’s said that we all end up with the face that we deserve. Laughter lines, crows feet, sagging jaw lines and numerous other manifestations are unfortunately part of our body’s ageing process. Looking forever 21 is not an option and ultimately no amount of facial enhancement, surgical or nonsurgical, can keep the sands of time at bay. But, it can be slowed down!

Our faces are unique, they are the portrait of our personality and no two are totally identical. Therefore, they have to be treated individually, with sensitivity and care. Successful restoration, as with all works of art, is a highly professional and skilled procedure. With the correct advice, product choice and technical expertise, Facial Aesthetics can create and maintain a fresh and youthful appearance.

My training and career as a Dental Surgeon (qualified 2002) gives me extensive knowledge of the facial anatomy. This has stimulated my interest in Facial Aesthetics and I completed separate professional training in this field, at the Royal Society of Medicine and the Royal College of Physicians in 2008.

I specialise in the use of Botulinum Toxins and facial fillers, which I use in traditional therapeutic cases as well as cosmetic enhancement. My interest in this field is extensive, and I embarked on a postgraduate research MSC in non-surgical Facial Aesthetics at the University of Central Lancashire 2011. I now also hold a Post-Graduate Diploma in Non-Surgical Facial Aesthetics.

Having the highest level of qualifications available in this field is extremely important to me, as I believe it gives my patients even greater confidence in the treatments I offer.

I have personal experience of the benefits of each and every treatment that I offer to my patients; do only to others as you would do to yourself! My belief is that ‘light touch’ is the preferred methodology for truly successful rejuvenation.

The ‘wind tunnel’ effect or the permanently startled expression is not my idea of professional facial enhancement. I want my patients to leave my surgery with a naturally refreshed and younger appearance – the signature look for my practice!

Detailed assessment and practical advice is key to outstanding results. There is a natural order to how our necks and faces age, certain areas deteriorate more rapidly than others; for instance in our fourth decade (30-40) the first signs of ageing tend to show, with the splitting and dropping of the malar complex (Cheek contour). Loss of cheek volume occurs and the tissues descend, helping to form the naso-labial fold. My objective is to make my patients aware of the treatment areas and procedures required to achieve the most effective results. Cheek augmentation early, rather than the filling of Naso-labial folds, restores the natural balance very effectively before nasolabial fold intervention is necessary.

As a medical professional my concern is first and foremost for the health and wellbeing of my patients. If I believe that there is no benefit to be gained from a specific procedure, rest assured I will be open and honest with my advice. All Facial Aesthetic procedures are carried out by myself within the sterile clinical environment of my own surgery, with strict cross-infection controls and medical protocols in place.

What I can do for you

My specialist range of non-surgical treatments are designed to help my patients look and feel their best. Procedures are carried out only after consultation and are virtually pain-free, with a minimum of down time.

To safeguard the health and wellbeing of my patients I use only high-quality clinically approved and licensed products. Non-Surgical Face Aesthetic procedures not only visibly improve appearance, but they have been proven to have psychological benefits such as improving mood and increasing levels of self-esteem.

Wrinkle softening procedures are straightforward and can even be done during a lunch hour, the only subsequent effects being slight redness around the treated areas. I use Botulinum Toxin to treat the pre-selected areas. The process of smoothing out lines and wrinkles takes 7-14 days before the full effects of each treatment are revealed. The results last 3-4 months.

Forehead

To soften and smooth out forehead wrinkles and frown lines resulting in a more youthful appearance, I use a substance called Botulinum Toxin. Popular brands include Azzalure® and Botox®. These are tried and tested products which have been used safely and effectively in the medical world for well over 25 years.

Eyes

Botulinum Toxin is also used to smooth out the wrinkles known as ‘crows feet or laughter lines’ around the eyes. This is a sensitive area and I am able to treat this region relatively painlessly using advanced application techniques.

Cheek Augmentation

As I stated earlier the cheek mid-face region is one of the first areas to show deterioration. Restoring this volume helps to prevent early naso-labial fold development. Hyaluronic acid gel fillers are used, the added beauty of these products is that they are not permanent and can be dissolved by an enzyme if necessary.

Lips and Mouth creases

Enhancing the shape and fullness of the lips by softening the creases sometimes known as ‘lipstick lines or smokers lines’ around the mouth achieves a significantly younger look to the lower part of the face. Following the application of local anaesthetic to the region I can safely and painlessly inject a special gel-like product in the lips and borders. The result is instant rejuvenation, the effects of which can last between 6-18 months depending on the products used. Swelling and occasional bruising may be experienced.

Nose to mouth and Marionette lines

As we get older this area is particularly prone to creasing. The corners of the mouth begin to turn downwards and loss of volume in these areas can be one of the most concerning and distressing for women. After applying a local anaesthetic I can inject fillers using an advanced cannula technique to ‘plump up’ the tissue and reduce the appearance of lines, resulting in a smoother, more youthful look. Cannulas help to prevent any significant bruising.

Skin Rejuvenation treatments

Percutaneous Collagen Induction therapy: Medical Micro-needling This treatment helps to reduce the depth of fine lines and wrinkles, it can also produce fantastic results for patients who suffer with acne scarring. A course of treatment is required. Numbing cream is applied to the face. The treatment takes around 30 minutes. You should expect to be slightly flushed in the face for the next 24 hours, and expect some dryness of the skin for the week or two following the procedure. Repeat courses are recommended every 6 weeks until a satisfactory result is reached; the number of treatments required will vary dependant upon the severity of any scarring. This treatment requires you to use SPF50 on your skin to protect the regenerating tissue beneath from harmful UV radiation effects. The face should be kept out of direct sunlight. This treatment is usually carried out during winter months, as it’s best to avoid times when a spell in the sunshine is planned.

Chemical Peels

I have taken a great deal of time researching the best agents to use on the skin surface for a number of different concerns. I have chosen the SkinMed range of Enerpeels as they have evidence based scientific data. The peels range from light to medium depth peels helping with active acne, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, age related pigmentation, brown spots and flushed faces.

Small changes – big benefits

We are all aware of the bad effects that sun exposure, tobacco, alcohol and poor eating habits have on our general health, but as we age this shows on our faces. Small changes can make a big difference, UV exposure has by far the biggest external impact on the ageing of the face. It is recommended that a Factor 50 SPF should be used at all times, even in the UK. Stopping smoking, a healthier diet and gentle exercise can help to slow down the ageing process and even contribute to the longevity of Facial Aesthetic treatments.
